Abstract: The article discusses approaches to the definition of small and medium-sized businesses in the agricultural sector of abroad. The analysis showed that the criteria for classifying enterprises as small and medium-sized enterprises in the agricultural sector are very diverse. This makes it difficult to compare statistical data and makes it necessary to develop a global unified classification system for small and medium-sized businesses. The differentiated approach of individual countries to the definition of small and medium-sized enterprises for various branches of agriculture allows us to take into account their peculiarities to the greatest extent. This makes government support more targeted and justified.
